After Naruto’s clone had freed Sakura from her cocoon, he told her to find a place to hide while he would get Sasuke back. Eventually, however, Sakura became so frustrated that everyone else was risking their lives for Sasuke while she was standing there doing nothing. Noting that she never did anything for Sasuke or Naruto, Sakura resolved to go after them.
By the time she arrived to the field where Naruto and Kimimaro were fighting, Kimimaro had already taken out all of Naruto’s clones and Sasuke had emerged from the coffin. Before Kimimaro could finish off Naruto, Sakura intervened with her genjutsu and saved him. Naruto urged Sakura to get away as she was no match for Kimimaro, but she refused. She was tired of always being a burden to her comrades and now she was willing to put her own life on the line for the people she cared about. Sakura implored Naruto to go after Sasuke while she would keep Kimimaro at bay. Naruto agreed but only if Sakura promised that she wouldn’t die here. Kimimaro attempted to kill Naruto before he could get away, but Sakura tricked him with her genjutsu again. Knowing that she could not fight Kimimaro head on, Sakura resolved to using her genjutsu skills to at least delay him.
